The high-level talks focused on strengthening the longstanding strategic partnership between the two nations, which has been characterized by mutual assistance and enduring friendship for over six decades.

Premier Li emphasized the deep-rooted ties between China and Sri Lanka, noting that since establishing diplomatic relations 67 years ago, the countries have respected each other and engaged in reciprocal cooperation. “China is ready to work with Sri Lanka to implement the important consensus reached by our heads of state during their talks last year,” Li stated. “We aim to carry forward the tradition of friendship, consolidate political mutual trust, and expand bilateral cooperation in various fields to promote common development.”

The meeting underscores China’s commitment to fostering closer ties with its South Asian neighbor, aligning with broader goals of regional stability and economic growth. For Sri Lanka, enhancing cooperation with China opens avenues for investment and support amid ongoing economic challenges.

Prime Minister Gunawardena expressed appreciation for China’s continued support and reiterated Sri Lanka’s interest in deepening collaboration in infrastructure, trade, and cultural exchanges. “Our partnership with China is pivotal to Sri Lanka’s development journey,” Gunawardena remarked. “We look forward to exploring new opportunities that benefit both our peoples.”
