In a significant step toward bolstering regional cooperation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha in Beijing on Tuesday. The high-level talks focused on enhancing the China-Nepal strategic partnership and promoting high-quality collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized China’s commitment to Nepal as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy. “As a friendly neighbor and strategic partner, China has always regarded Nepal as a priority,” Wang said. “We are ready to work with Nepal to advance our ever-lasting friendship for development and prosperity to a new and higher level.”
Shrestha conveyed Nepal’s dedication to strengthening ties with China. “The new government of Nepal attaches great importance to relations with China,” he stated. “Nepal is willing to work with China to advance the Belt and Road cooperation and has decided to join the Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative.”
The discussions underscored both nations’ commitment to deepen cooperation across various sectors, including infrastructure development, trade, and cultural exchanges. The meeting signals a mutual intent to enhance regional connectivity and economic growth.
