On Monday, China’s top legislator Zhao Leji met with Alexander Babakov, Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma, in Beijing. The meeting marked a significant step in enhancing legislative cooperation between the two nations.
Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, emphasized the importance of implementing the consensus reached by their heads of state. He highlighted the need to leverage the unique advantages of their legislative bodies, deepen exchanges across various levels and fields, and expand institutionalized cooperation. “We aim to provide a robust legal framework for our practical cooperation and strengthen the social foundation for enduring China-Russia friendship,” Zhao stated.
Expressing support for Russia’s hosting of the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, Zhao noted that China is ready to enhance communication and coordination with Russia in multilateral arenas. “We are committed to working closely within the BRICS framework to promote mutual interests,” he added.
Alexander Babakov acknowledged the continuous development of Russia-China relations under the guidance of their leaders. He expressed the Russian State Duma’s willingness to maintain close and friendly exchanges with the NPC of China. “Our goal is to enrich the substance of our bilateral cooperation and make positive contributions to our strategic partnership,” Babakov remarked.
The meeting underscores both countries’ commitment to deepening legislative ties, reinforcing their strategic partnership, and contributing to regional stability and development.
