In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, China’s top legislator Zhao Leji met with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of the Commonwealth of Dominica in Beijing on Monday. The meeting emphasized the shared commitment of both nations to the Global Development Initiative and the enhancement of friendly cooperation.
Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, highlighted the strong foundation of the 20-year diplomatic relationship between China and Dominica. “China and Dominica are good friends and good partners sharing the same goals,” Zhao stated, noting the tangible benefits that the partnership has brought to the peoples of both countries.
Prime Minister Skerrit expressed appreciation for China’s support in various development projects within Dominica. He reaffirmed Dominica’s adherence to the one-China principle and expressed interest in deepening collaboration in areas such as infrastructure, education, and climate change resilience.
The leaders discussed the importance of implementing the Global Development Initiative, a framework aimed at fostering sustainable development through international cooperation.
