Beijing, China — In a significant move to enhance regional security and cooperation, Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun met with Mao Sophan, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, on Monday in Beijing. Defense Minister Dong Jun highlighted the enduring friendship between China and Cambodia, noting that their bilateral relationship has flourished over time. He emphasized that under the strategic guidance of their leaders, the building of a China-Cambodia community with a shared future has entered a new era characterized by high quality, high level, and high standards.
“We should deepen strategic communication, utilize cooperation mechanisms, and enhance the quality and efficiency of our cooperation to contribute to regional peace,” Dong stated, underscoring the importance of implementing the consensus on military cooperation reached by both countries’ leaders.
Mao Sophan expressed Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to the one-China principle and conveyed willingness to work closely with China to enhance practical cooperation and exchanges between their militaries. “Cambodia is eager to strengthen our military ties with China for the benefit of both our nations and the stability of the region,” he remarked.
