China and DPRK Pledge to Strengthen Traditional Friendship and Expand Cooperation

In a significant move to bolster regional ties, senior officials from China and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) met in Beijing to discuss the future of bilateral relations. Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, hosted Kim Song Nam, international department director of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) Central Committee, on Saturday.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, emphasized China’s unwavering commitment to maintaining and developing the traditional friendship with the DPRK. He highlighted China’s willingness to collaborate with the DPRK on a series of activities marking the China-DPRK Friendship Year, aiming to expand pragmatic cooperation across various fields and to open up brighter prospects for their relations.

Kim Song Nam expressed the DPRK’s appreciation for China’s enduring support in its socialist endeavors. He noted that the DPRK-China friendship is a shared strategic asset of both nations. Furthermore, Kim affirmed the DPRK’s support for China’s measures on issues concerning Taiwan, Xinjiang, Hong Kong, and others, underscoring the mutual solidarity between the two countries.

This high-level meeting signals a continued dedication from both sides to strengthen diplomatic ties and collaborate on regional matters, potentially impacting the broader political and economic landscape of Asia.
