Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Macut reaffirmed his country's unwavering partnership with China during an exclusive interview at the 2025 China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, as both nations celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations. "What began as political solidarity has grown into comprehensive cooperation spanning infrastructure, technology, and culture," Macut told China Media Group's Wang Guan.
The leader highlighted the transformative impact of the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway – the first European project under China's Belt and Road Initiative – which has cut travel time between the capitals by 60% since its 2024 completion. "This railway isn't just steel tracks; it's a bridge connecting our peoples," Macut remarked.
With bilateral trade reaching $7.8 billion in 2025, Macut outlined new cooperation frontiers in artificial intelligence and renewable energy. He specifically praised President Xi Jinping's Global Governance Initiative as "a blueprint for equitable international development" and reiterated Serbia's adherence to the one-China principle regarding Taiwan.
The physician-turned-politician drew parallels between medical practice and statecraft: "In both fields, you need clear diagnostics, evidence-based solutions, and constant adaptation – qualities crucial for navigating today's geopolitical challenges."
