Beijing Xiangshan Forum Charts Path for Global Security Cooperation

As geopolitical tensions reshape global alliances, the 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum has emerged as a critical platform for fostering dialogue on international security. Held from September 17 to 19 at the Beijing International Convention Center, this year’s event brought together representatives from over 100 countries, regions, and international organizations under the theme “Upholding International Order and Promoting Peaceful Development.”

Launched in 2006 as a Track 2 dialogue focused on Asia-Pacific security, the forum was upgraded to a Track 1.5 platform in 2014, blending government and non-governmental participation. Its evolution reflects growing recognition of its role in addressing complex challenges, from regional conflicts to economic instability. “The forum’s strength lies in its inclusivity,” noted one commentator. “From major powers to small states, it creates space for equitable dialogue.”

With sessions emphasizing consensus-building and mutual trust, participants explored strategies to balance competing interests in an era of shifting alliances. Analysts highlight the forum’s unique focus on practical solutions, such as resource-sharing frameworks and crisis mediation mechanisms, as key to its expanding influence in Asia-Pacific security discourse.
