China Marks 80th WWII Anniversary, Calls for Global Unity

Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a historic speech from the Tiananmen Rostrum on Sunday, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Standing before representatives from over 20 nations, Xi emphasized humanity's shared responsibility to choose "peace over war" and "dialogue over confrontation."

The ceremony featured a military parade flanked by symbolic installations of the Great Wall and dates marking the conflict's timeline (1945-2025). Over 35 million Chinese military and civilian casualties were remembered during the event, with special recognition given to international allies from Russia, the U.S., and other nations who supported China's resistance efforts.

Historical analysis presented during the commemoration highlighted China's pivotal role in the Eastern Theater, where its forces tied down more than half of Japan's overseas military strength. This strategic effort significantly slowed fascist expansion, contributing to the global Allied victory.

President Xi's address framed the anniversary as both a remembrance and a roadmap: "By building a community with a shared future for humanity, we honor those who sacrificed while creating lasting peace for generations to come." The event concluded with cultural performances showcasing wartime solidarity between Chinese citizens and international allies.
