The U.S. Senate narrowly passed a sweeping legislative package dubbed the "One Big, Beautiful Bill" (OBBB) on July 1, relying on Vice President JD Vance's tie-breaking vote. The bill, championed by former President Donald Trump, combines tax reductions, defense spending hikes, and stricter immigration policies — key Republican priorities.

Democrats unanimously opposed the legislation, arguing it disproportionately benefits high-income households while risking healthcare access for nearly 12 million Americans through proposed spending cuts. Analysts warn the bill's complex provisions, including "political gimmicks" noted by the nonpartisan Tax Foundation, could deepen economic inequality.

With the House of Representatives now reviewing the proposal, debates over its long-term impacts on social safety nets and fiscal responsibility are intensifying. Critics question whether the bill's promised economic growth will offset its potential strain on vulnerable populations.
