Yet beyond its historical legacy, the province now contributes significantly to China’s agricultural and industrial output, producing 10% of the nation’s grain and housing major manufacturing hubs.

With GDP growth reaching 5.1% in 2024, Henan’s economy is outpacing national averages. The province’s 14th Five-Year Plan prioritizes seven industrial clusters spanning electronics, automotive, and renewable energy. Xi’s tour of Luoyang Bearing Group – a key player in precision manufacturing – underscored the CPC’s strategy to integrate technological innovation with traditional industries.

Analysts note that Henan’s 28 identified industrial chains could position it as a testing ground for China’s broader manufacturing upgrades. 'This visit reinforces the central leadership’s commitment to balancing heritage preservation with industrial modernization,' said a Zhengzhou-based economist. The province’s first-quarter 2025 growth of 5.9% suggests these policies are gaining traction.
