Sri Lankan President Dissanayake on China’s Innovation and Sri Lanka’s Future

In an exclusive interview with CMG's He Yanke during his state visit to China from January 14 to 17, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed his admiration for China's remarkable strides in innovation and development. Reflecting on the longstanding ties between the two nations, Dissanayake highlighted the significance of the Rubber-Rice Pact of 1952 and the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1957 as foundational pillars of Sino-Sri Lankan friendship.

\"We are studying and learning from China's development model,\" President Dissanayake stated, emphasizing the importance of adopting strategies that have propelled China to the forefront of global innovation. He acknowledged China's support over the years, noting how both countries have consistently backed each other on issues of core interests and major concerns.

Discussing Sri Lanka's ambitions to become a key economic hub in the region, Dissanayake outlined his vision for the Hambantota Port and Port City Colombo projects. \"These initiatives are pivotal for our economic growth and integration into the global economy,\" he said. The president elaborated on plans to leverage these strategic assets to attract foreign investment, enhance trade, and stimulate socio-economic development.

The elevation of bilateral relations to a strategic cooperative partnership in 2013 marked a new chapter in collaboration between China and Sri Lanka. Dissanayake expressed optimism about the future, stating, \"Our partnership with China is more than just diplomatic; it's a shared journey towards prosperity and innovation.\"

As Sri Lanka looks ahead, President Dissanayake affirmed his commitment to fostering stronger ties with China and learning from its experiences. \"By embracing innovation and strategic development, we aim to create a thriving economy that benefits all our people,\" he concluded.
