Chinese President Xi Jinping's recent tour of Liaoning Province in northeast China marks his first domestic inspection in 2025. His visit to inspect disaster recovery, urban renewal, and industrial advancement work signifies not only a commitment to the region's development but also a touch of warmth as he interacts with local communities.
For the 13th consecutive year, President Xi has visited grassroots communities ahead of the Spring Festival, the most significant festival for the Chinese people. This tradition reflects his dedication to connecting with citizens at a personal level. Moreover, this marks his fourth visit to Liaoning since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2012, underscoring the importance of the province in China's broader development plans.
On January 22, Xi traveled to Zhujiagou, a village in Huludao, one of the areas hardest hit by the unprecedented torrential downpours that caused devastating floods in Liaoning in 2024. The village had suffered greatly, but the rapid response by the village committee saw new homes being constructed in higher areas for the severely affected households.
The new housing was thoughtfully tailored to each family's size and needs. In less than two months, a new Zhujiagou Village emerged, providing nearly 200 disaster-stricken people with a warm home before the onset of winter. Xi inspected the progress of post-disaster restoration, visiting the homes of the relocated villagers and asking about the quality of the new houses as well as provisions for their daily life.
People's well-being has always been at the heart of Xi's concerns. Long before the flood, during the 2013 National People's Congress, he emphasized the importance of ensuring and improving people's livelihoods while participating in the deliberations of the delegation from Liaoning. He urged officials to pay special attention to those facing difficulties and to deliver tangible benefits to the people. The swift relocation after the flood reflects this \"people-first\" philosophy and a commitment to enhancing the sense of security among the population.
Continuing his tour on January 23, Xi visited the Chang'an community in Shenyang, Liaoning's capital, to observe how public services are being optimized to improve residents' quality of life. Since 2023, the community has been renovating old residential areas. All 13 residential buildings and public areas within the community have been upgraded. Additionally, initiatives promoting quality employment, education, health services, and elderly care have been launched to support the residents.
Xi also paid a visit to a cold rolling mill of the Bensteel Group in Benxi, another city in Liaoning. He gained insights into the company's efforts to accelerate transformation and upgrading, promoting high-quality development in the steel industry.
