Chinese President Xi Jinping recently toured Liaoning Province in northeast China to inspect disaster recovery efforts, urban renewal initiatives, and advancements in industrial development. This visit marks his first domestic inspection in 2025.
For the 13th consecutive year, President Xi has visited grassroots communities ahead of the Spring Festival, China's most significant festival. This journey also marks his fourth visit to Liaoning since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2012, highlighting the province's ongoing importance in national development.
On January 22, Xi visited Zhujiagou, a village in Huludao—one of the hardest-hit cities during the summer floods in Liaoning in 2024 caused by unprecedented torrential downpours. The disaster severely affected numerous households, displacing residents and damaging infrastructure.
In response to the calamity, the village committee swiftly constructed new homes for the severely affected families on higher ground. Tailored to each family's size and needs, the new housing project was completed in less than two months. The reconstruction of Zhujiagou Village provided nearly 200 disaster-stricken people with warm homes before the onset of winter, embodying the resilience and solidarity of the community.
During his visit, President Xi inspected the progress of post-disaster restoration. He visited the homes of relocated villagers, inquiring about the quality of the new houses and provisions for their daily lives. His interactions reflected a deep concern for the well-being of the people and a commitment to ensuring that recovery efforts meet their needs.
People's well-being has always been a major focus for Xi Jinping. Back in 2013, during the National People's Congress, he emphasized the importance of ensuring and improving people's livelihoods while participating in the deliberations of the delegation from Liaoning. He urged special attention to those facing difficulties and called for delivering tangible benefits to the people. The swift relocation after the flood is a testament to this \"people-first\" philosophy and the commitment to enhancing the sense of security among citizens.
On January 23, Xi visited the Chang'an community in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province, to observe how public services are being optimized to improve residents' quality of life. Since 2023, the community has been renovating old residential areas. All 13 residential buildings and public areas within the community have been upgraded. Initiatives promoting quality employment, education, health services, and elderly care have been launched to support the residents, showcasing efforts to build a more inclusive and supportive community.
In Benxi, another city in Liaoning, Xi visited a cold rolling mill of the Bensteel Group. He gained insights into the company's efforts to accelerate transformation and upgrading, promoting high-quality development in the steel industry. This visit underscores the emphasis on industrial advancement and the pursuit of sustainable economic growth.
President Xi's visit to Liaoning reflects a continued commitment to addressing the needs of the people, fostering community development, and advancing industrial progress. His hands-on approach and direct engagement with communities and enterprises highlight the government's dedication to building a prosperous and resilient society.
