Xi Jinping's Liaoning Visit: Rebuilding Communities and Enhancing Well-being

Chinese President Xi Jinping recently visited Liaoning Province in northeast China, marking his first domestic inspection in 2025. The tour emphasized disaster recovery efforts, urban renewal, and industrial advancement, showcasing a steadfast commitment to improving people's livelihoods.

Post-Disaster Reconstruction in Zhujiagou Village

On January 22, President Xi traveled to Zhujiagou, a village in Huludao, one of the areas severely affected by the unprecedented summer floods of 2024. The torrential downpours caused significant damage, displacing many residents.

In response, the village committee swiftly coordinated the construction of new homes for the severely affected households in safer, higher terrain. The new housing was tailored to each family's needs, and within two months, nearly 200 people had moved into their new homes before winter's onset.

During his visit, President Xi inspected the progress of post-disaster restoration. He visited the homes of relocated villagers, inquiring about the quality of their new houses and provisions for daily life. His interactions reflected a deep concern for the well-being of the residents.

Emphasizing a People-First Philosophy

People's well-being has been a consistent priority for President Xi. As early as the 2013 National People's Congress, he underscored the importance of improving livelihoods and paying special attention to those facing difficulties. The swift relocation and restoration efforts in Zhujiagou Village exemplify this people-first philosophy and the commitment to enhancing the sense of security among residents.

Urban Renewal in Shenyang

On January 23, President Xi visited the Chang'an community in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province. The visit focused on how public services are being optimized to improve the quality of life for residents. Since 2023, the community has undertaken renovations of old residential areas, upgrading all 13 buildings and public spaces.

Initiatives promoting quality employment, education, healthcare, and elderly care have been launched to support the residents. President Xi's visit highlighted the importance of urban renewal projects in enhancing living standards and fostering community development.

Advancing Industrial Transformation in Benxi

In Benxi, another city in Liaoning, President Xi visited a cold rolling mill of the Bensteel Group. He gained insights into the company's efforts to accelerate transformation and upgrading, promoting high-quality development in the industrial sector. The focus on industrial advancement underscores the broader objectives of economic revitalization and sustainable growth in the region.

A Tradition of Grassroots Engagement

This visit marks the 13th consecutive year President Xi has visited grassroots communities ahead of the Spring Festival, China's most important festival. It is also his fourth visit to Liaoning Province since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012. These visits reflect a continuous engagement with local communities and a hands-on approach to governance.

Reflections on Commitment and Warmth

President Xi Jinping's tour of Liaoning Province serves as a testament to his commitment to people-centered development. Through direct engagement with affected communities and oversight of urban and industrial projects, the visit highlights the ongoing efforts to build a prosperous and resilient society.
