Xi Jinping’s Liaoning Visit Highlights Commitment to People and Development

Chinese President Xi Jinping embarked on his first domestic tour of 2025 with a visit to Liaoning Province in northeast China, reaffirming his commitment to the well-being of the people and the country's development. This marks the 13th consecutive year that President Xi has connected with grassroots communities ahead of the Spring Festival, China's most significant traditional festival.

On January 22, President Xi traveled to Zhujiagou, a village in Huludao, one of the areas hardest hit by the unprecedented torrential downpours that caused severe flooding in Liaoning during the summer of 2024. In response to the disaster, the village committee swiftly constructed new homes for the severely affected households on higher ground. Tailored to each family's needs, the new housing emerged in less than two months, providing nearly 200 people with secure and warm homes before the onset of winter.

During his visit, President Xi inspected the progress of post-disaster restoration. He visited the homes of relocated villagers, inquiring about the quality of their new houses and the provisions for their daily lives. His interactions reflected his longstanding dedication to the people's well-being and the \"people-first\" philosophy that underscores his governance.

President Xi's concern for the livelihoods of the people dates back to his participation in the 2013 National People's Congress, where he emphasized the importance of ensuring and improving people's lives while deliberating with the delegation from Liaoning. The rapid reconstruction efforts following the flood embody this commitment, enhancing the residents' sense of security and well-being.

On January 23, President Xi visited the Chang'an community in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province, to observe how public services are being optimized to improve residents' quality of life. Since 2023, the community has undertaken renovations of old residential areas, upgrading all 13 residential buildings and public spaces. Initiatives promoting quality employment, education, healthcare services, and elderly care have been launched to support the community's residents.

In Benxi, another city in Liaoning, President Xi toured a cold rolling mill of the Bensteel Group. He gained insights into the company's efforts to accelerate transformation and upgrading, promoting high-quality development in the region's industrial sector.

President Xi's visit to Liaoning not only highlights the ongoing efforts in disaster recovery and urban renewal but also underscores the significance of industrial advancement in China's broader development strategy. His hands-on approach and direct engagement with communities and industries reflect a commitment to addressing the needs of the people and fostering sustainable growth.
