Chinese President Xi Jinping recently embarked on a tour of Liaoning Province in northeast China, marking his first domestic inspection of 2025. This visit continues his 13-year tradition of connecting with grassroots communities ahead of the Spring Festival, China's most significant cultural celebration.
On January 22, President Xi visited Zhujiagou, a village in Huludao, one of the areas most severely affected by the devastating floods of 2024. Unprecedented torrential downpours had caused widespread damage, displacing many residents. In response, the village committee swiftly organized the construction of new homes for severely affected households on higher ground. Tailored to each family's needs, the new village was completed in less than two months, providing nearly 200 people with warm homes before the harsh winter set in.
During his visit, President Xi inspected the progress of post-disaster restoration, visiting the homes of relocated villagers. He inquired about the quality of the new houses and the provisions made for their daily lives. His concern highlighted his longstanding commitment to the well-being of the people. In 2013, during the National People's Congress, he emphasized the importance of ensuring and improving people's livelihoods, urging special attention to those facing difficulties.
The rapid reconstruction of Zhujiagou Village reflects a \"people-first\" philosophy, demonstrating a tangible commitment to enhancing the residents' sense of security and well-being.
The next day, President Xi visited the Chang'an community in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province, to observe efforts in urban renewal and public service optimization. Since 2023, the community has been renovating old residential areas, upgrading all 13 residential buildings and public spaces. Initiatives to promote quality employment, education, healthcare, and elderly care have been implemented to support the residents and improve their quality of life.
In addition, President Xi toured a cold rolling mill of the Bensteel Group in Benxi City. He gained insights into the company's efforts to accelerate transformation and upgrading processes, aiming to promote high-quality development within the industry.
President Xi's visit to Liaoning Province underscores his dedication to disaster recovery, urban renewal, and industrial advancement. His hands-on approach and genuine concern for the people's welfare continue to inspire confidence and foster a sense of unity as China moves forward into the new year.
