Chinese President Xi Jinping recently conducted a tour of Liaoning Province in northeast China, inspecting disaster recovery efforts, urban renewal projects, and industrial advancements. This visit marks his first domestic inspection in 2025 and continues his tradition of visiting grassroots communities ahead of the Spring Festival for the 13th consecutive year. It is also his fourth visit to Liaoning since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2012.
On January 22, President Xi traveled to Zhujiagou, a village in Huludao, one of the cities most severely affected by the unprecedented torrential downpours that caused devastating floods in Liaoning during the summer of 2024. In response to the disaster, the village committee swiftly organized the construction of new homes for severely affected households on higher ground. The new housing was tailored to each family's size and needs, and in less than two months, a rebuilt Zhujiagou Village emerged, providing nearly 200 disaster-stricken residents with a warm home before the onset of winter.
During his visit, President Xi inspected the progress of post-disaster restoration, visiting the homes of relocated villagers and inquiring about the quality of the new houses and provisions for their daily lives. His concern for the well-being of the people was evident, reflecting his longstanding commitment to placing the people's interests first. Back in 2013, during the National People's Congress, he had emphasized the importance of ensuring and improving people's livelihoods while participating in deliberations with the delegation from Liaoning.
On January 23, President Xi visited the Chang'an community in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province, to observe how public services are being optimized to enhance residents' quality of life. Since 2023, the community has been renovating old residential areas, upgrading all 13 residential buildings and public spaces. Initiatives promoting quality employment, education, health services, and elderly care have been launched to support the residents and foster a better living environment.
The president also toured a cold rolling mill of the Bensteel Group in the city of Benxi to gain insights into the company's efforts in accelerating transformation, upgrading, and promoting high-quality development. His visit underscored the importance of industrial innovation and modernization in driving economic growth and improving the standard of living for the people in the region.
