The World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting is scheduled to take place from January 20 to 24 in Davos, Switzerland. This significant global event is expected to bring together close to 3,000 leaders from politics, academia, and business, including 60 heads of state and government.
Throughout its history, the WEF has been a catalyst for pivotal discussions and decisions that have shaped global affairs. In 1992, for instance, Nelson Mandela and F.W. de Klerk met outside South Africa for the first time at Davos, marking a turning point in the fight against apartheid. Similarly, in 1998, amid a financial crisis, the idea of creating a regular dialogue platform between developed and developing nations emerged at the forum, eventually leading to the establishment of the Group of 20 (G20).
This year’s meeting comes at a time when geopolitical and economic uncertainties, trade tensions, cultural polarization, and climate challenges are increasingly complex and interconnected. Meanwhile, technological breakthroughs in quantum computing, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence offer unique opportunities to improve productivity, enhance living standards, and reduce poverty and inequality.
Davos 2025 will center on the theme “Collaborating for the Intelligent Age“, highlighting how converging technologies are rapidly transforming our world with the potential to both uplift and divide humanity. The forum will focus on five key priorities: “Rethinking Growth,” “Industries in the Intelligent Age,” “Investing in People,” “Safeguarding the Planet,” and “Rebuilding Trust.”
As leaders converge in Davos, the global community anticipates meaningful dialogue and collaborative solutions to address these pressing issues and harness the potential of technological advancements for the betterment of all.
