Davos 2025: What to Expect at the Upcoming World Economic Forum

As the world continues to grapple with complex challenges, anticipation builds for the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting scheduled from January 20 to 24, 2025, in Davos, Switzerland. This year’s gathering is expected to bring together nearly 3,000 leaders from politics, academia, and business, including 60 heads of state and government.

Over the years, the WEF has been a catalyst for significant global developments, serving as a platform for bilateral and multilateral discussions on critical issues. For instance, in 1992, Nelson Mandela and F.W. de Klerk met outside South Africa for the first time at Davos, symbolizing a pivotal moment in the fight against apartheid. Similarly, in 1998, amidst a financial crisis, the idea of creating a dialogue platform between developed and developing nations emerged, laying the foundation for the establishment of the Group of 20 (G20).

As we approach Davos 2025, the gap between global aspirations and anxieties has become more pronounced. Geopolitical and economic uncertainties, trade tensions, cultural polarization, and climate challenges are increasingly complex and interconnected. At the same time, technological breakthroughs in quantum computing, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence present unique opportunities to enhance productivity, improve living standards, and reduce poverty and inequality.

The theme for Davos 2025, “Collaborating for the Intelligent Age,” underscores the profound impact of converging technologies on our world. These advancements have the potential to both uplift and divide humanity. Under this overarching theme, the forum will focus on five key priorities: “Rethinking Growth,” “Industries in the Intelligent Age,” “Investing in People,” “Safeguarding the Planet,” and “Rebuilding Trust.”

As leaders convene in Davos, the world watches with hope that collaborative efforts will address pressing global challenges and harness technological innovations for the betterment of all. The discussions and decisions made at Davos 2025 could shape the trajectory of our global community in the coming years.
