During his 46th visit to China, former Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf expressed admiration for the flourishing China-Egypt relations and China’s role as a peaceful power on the global stage. In an exclusive interview with CMG’s He Yanke, Sharaf highlighted the significance of the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations and the launch of the China-Egypt year of partnership in 2024.
‘People around the world depend on China as a peaceful power,’ Sharaf stated, emphasizing that no other country has had such a positive impact on such a large group of countries. He described the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as the world’s largest international cooperation platform, fostering connectivity and development across continents.
Sharaf also praised China’s three global initiatives as the ‘building blocks’ to realize a community with a shared future. ‘These initiatives reflect China’s commitment to global peace, development, and cooperation,’ he said.
However, Sharaf cautioned that China is facing a ‘media war’ of misinformation. ‘Only through cooperation and mutual learning can we overcome misunderstandings,’ he remarked, underscoring the importance of people-to-people exchange in bridging cultural divides and fostering mutual respect.
As the world stands at a historic crossroads, Sharaf believes that the deepening cooperation between China and Egypt can contribute to a more peaceful and prosperous future. ‘Our shared values and historic ties provide a strong foundation for collaboration in various fields,’ he concluded.
