The China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) concluded in Beijing on September 16, marking a significant milestone in global trade collaboration. Amid the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing global uncertainties, CIFTIS stands as a beacon of hope, fostering international cooperation and innovation in the service sector.
Over the past decade, CIFTIS has evolved into a premier platform for countries to engage in multi-level cooperation across emerging key areas. This year’s event, themed “Global Service, Mutual Benefit and Sharing,” showcased China’s commitment to high-level opening-up and its intention to work collaboratively with nations worldwide.
In 2023, President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of promoting openness, cooperation, innovation, and shared growth in the service industry and trade. As one of the world’s largest economies and the largest developing country, China continues to champion economic globalization by providing avenues for global exchange and collaboration.
Since its inception in 2012, CIFTIS has attracted participants from nearly 200 countries and regions, focusing on pivotal service areas such as the integration of culture and tourism, the digital economy, technological innovation, digital trade, health services, and the green economy. It has become the largest comprehensive exhibition in global service trade, actively promoting common development and win-win cooperation in the international economy.
Ghulam Qadir, Trade and Investment Counsellor at the Embassy of Pakistan in China, hailed CIFTIS as “one of the most important exhibitions in the world.” Similarly, Babagana Wakil, the Nigerian Ambassador to China, expressed confidence that CIFTIS will bolster South-South cooperation between China and Nigeria.
By expanding its global partnerships through CIFTIS, China demonstrates its dedication to fostering practical international cooperation. The fair not only underscores China’s role in global economic development but also opens new avenues for countries to seize emerging opportunities in the international service trade.
