Surge in International Visitors Boosts ‘China Travel’ Trend

In recent months, “China Travel” has emerged as a buzzword among global travelers as international visitors flock to the Chinese mainland following the implementation of new visa-free policies earlier this year. From unilateral and mutual visa exemption schemes to a 144-hour visa-free transit facility, these measures have significantly boosted tourism.

According to recent data, in the first seven months of 2024, the number of international visitors increased by nearly 130% year-on-year, reaching over 17 million. This remarkable surge not only reflects the effectiveness of the visa policies but also signals a positive shift in China’s global image as a welcoming destination.

At Beijing Capital International Airport, officers from the Beijing General Station of Immigration Inspection have observed the notable increase in foreign arrivals. Wang Guan, our correspondent, spoke with these officers to gain insights into the impact of the new policies. One officer remarked, “The 144-hour visa-free transit has been particularly popular. Visitors appreciate the ease of access and the opportunity to explore multiple cities during their stay.”

Foreign travelers have expressed satisfaction with the streamlined immigration process. Maria, a tourist from Spain, shared her experience: “Getting through immigration was surprisingly smooth. I was able to start my adventure in Beijing without any delays.”

The economic implications of this tourism boom are significant. Increased visitor spending supports local businesses, boosts the hospitality and service sectors, and contributes to overall economic growth. Moreover, the rise in international visitors fosters cultural exchanges and enhances mutual understanding between China and other countries.

As China continues to open its doors wider to the world, the “China Travel” trend shows no signs of slowing down. Positive visitor experiences highlight the success of the visa-free policies and reinforce China’s position as a premier global travel destination.
