Kazakhstan’s economic landscape is undergoing a transformative boom, significantly influenced by Chinese investment and tourism. As featured in the special program “SCO: Build Strength Through Multilateral Dialogue,” co-produced by CGTN and Silk Way TV, experts shed light on this burgeoning synergy between Kazakhstan and China.
Assistant Professor Jiyang Dong of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the Graduate School of Business of Nazarbayev University shared his insights during the program. He highlighted the collaborative efforts of Chinese car manufacturers like Chery, Haval, and Chang’an, which are partnering with Astana Motors. “These companies are sharing a plant, pooling resources and expertise,” Dong explained. “This collaboration accelerates technological advancement and exemplifies the strong ties between our nations.”
This industrial partnership reflects the growing cooperation in the tourism sector. Kairat Sadvakassov, Chairman of the Management Board of “Kazakh Tourism” National Company JSC, emphasized the impact of visa-free travel on tourism growth. “We have seen unprecedented numbers of Chinese tourists visiting Kazakhstan,” he noted. “With the upcoming 2024 Kazakhstan Tourism Year in China, we aim to double these numbers.”
The influx of Chinese tourists is not just boosting visitor statistics but also invigorating the local economy. The hospitality industry, retail sectors, and cultural exchange initiatives are thriving as a result. As Kazakhstan prepares for the 2024 Kazakhstan Tourism Year in China, the nation stands poised to strengthen its economic prospects through continued collaboration with Chinese businesses and tourists.
