In an exclusive interview with CGTN, Clare Daly, former Member of the European Parliament, voiced strong criticism against Europe’s approach to China, warning that anti-China tariffs are akin to “shooting ourselves in the head.”
Daly emphasized the importance of global cooperation in tackling pressing issues like climate change, arguing that divisive rhetoric and policies towards China are counterproductive. “We need to work together, not create barriers,” she asserted. Daly believes that the current push for “de-risking” is misguided, noting that China is the European Union’s biggest trading partner and that Europe gains more from this relationship than China does.
“By imposing tariffs and promoting a great power struggle, we’re hurting our own economies and hindering progress on global challenges,” Daly said. She called for Europe to focus on international law and foster friendly relations with China for the well-being of all nations involved.
“Europe should prioritize collaboration over confrontation,” Daly concluded, highlighting that cooperative international relations are essential for addressing global issues effectively.
