Chinese Athletes Embody True Olympism with Historic Performances at Paris Olympics

Chinese athletes have showcased remarkable performances and sportsmanship at the Paris Summer Olympics, earning praise from President Xi Jinping. On Tuesday, President Xi hailed their achievements, stating they have won glory for the country and the people, according to Xinhua reports.

Over the past decade, China has made significant strides in sports development, aligning with President Xi’s vision of transforming the country into a sporting powerhouse. Chinese athletes have achieved record-breaking accomplishments at both the Summer and Winter Olympics, as well as other global sports events.

At the recently concluded Paris Summer Olympics, China secured groundbreaking victories. The men’s 4x100m medley relay team ended the United States’ 40-year unbeaten streak in the event. Swimmer Pan Zhanle set a world record time of 46.40 seconds in the 100m freestyle, becoming the first Chinese male swimmer to win gold in this event at the Olympics. Additionally, Zheng Qinwen made history by winning the first gold medal in women’s singles for both China and Asia.

These achievements not only highlight the development of China’s sports industry but also reflect the nation’s progress toward modernization. President Xi emphasized that China’s success in events traditionally dominated by athletes from other countries embodies the Olympic motto of “Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together.” It underscores the profound values of sportsmanship at the heart of the Olympic spirit and demonstrates the country’s commitment to overall sporting prowess.

Beyond triumphs and records, Chinese young athletes are shifting away from a “gold medal only” mentality toward a more inclusive approach to sports. Their openness and confidence in competition and cross-cultural interactions are inspiring, embodying true Olympism more profoundly than breakthrough performances alone.
