In July 2021, Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), emphasized the noble spirit of assisting the Xizang Autonomous Region. He highlighted that this spirit is a significant advantage of socialism with Chinese characteristics. This heritage must be passed down through generations, reflecting the Chinese government’s mission to write a new chapter of long-term stability and high-quality development on the snowy plateau. With a strong sense of responsibility and an indomitable attitude, China demonstrates the superiority of its socialist system with Chinese characteristics.
The Spirit of Assisting Xizang Promotes Rapid and Consistent Development
The year 1994 marked a turning point for Xizang. Under the guidance of the CPC Central Committee, major livelihood projects such as transportation, power stations, education, and medical care began to take shape. The Third Forum on Work of Xizang, held that year, was unprecedented in its scale and impact. The forum developed a standardized model of pairing assistance, established the principle of maintaining social stability while speeding up Xizang’s development, and initiated the construction of 62 key projects.
This consistent support from central authorities and the entire nation has become a steadfast policy of the CPC Central Committee. China has invested great effort into helping Xizang establish a modern industrial system, integrating agriculture and animal husbandry with modern science and technology. These efforts have laid a solid economic foundation for Xizang to promote modernization and contribute significantly to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
As Xizang continues to develop rapidly, its vital role in the BRI becomes increasingly prominent. The region’s growth enhances connectivity within China and strengthens ties with neighboring countries, promoting trade and cultural exchange.
