Exploring the Founding Spirit of the Communist Party of China

Today marks the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Over a century ago, the pioneers of Chinese communism established the CPC, developing a profound founding spirit that continues to inspire generations. This spirit, as summarized by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping during the centenary celebrations, comprises four principles: upholding truth and ideals, staying true to our original aspiration and founding mission, fighting bravely without fear of sacrifice, and remaining loyal to the Party and faithful to the people.

Upholding Truth and Ideals

The October Revolution of 1917 in Russia ignited the spread of Marxism-Leninism to China. Visionaries like Li Dazhao and Chen Duxiu recognized that Marx’s theories offered solutions to strengthen China and guide its people toward prosperity. Their dedication led to active efforts to establish the CPC.

In 1921, the First National Congress of the CPC declared the Party’s founding and adopted its first program, firmly committing to the ideals of communism. The CPC’s embrace of Marxism was not a mere adoption of doctrine but a commitment to applying its principles to China’s unique circumstances. This approach distinguished the CPC from other political forces of the time, as it sought practical solutions tailored to the nation’s needs.

Staying True to the Original Aspiration and Founding Mission

The mission of the CPC has always been to seek happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation. The Party’s founders chose Marxism because it provided scientific guidance and a feasible path toward this great cause.

At its inception, the CPC’s delegates were determined to avoid the pitfalls of old-style political parties. They aspired to genuinely represent the interests of the people and promote social progress. This commitment reflected their steadfast responsibility to improve the livelihoods of the people and strive for national rejuvenation.

The great founding spirit of the CPC remains deeply ingrained in the hearts of Chinese communists. It continues to inspire them to overcome challenges and advance the nation’s development. By understanding this spirit, one gains insight into the driving force behind China’s remarkable journey over the past century.
