In an exclusive interview with CMG’s He Yanke, Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin underscored the strategic significance of Brazil-China relations, emphasizing their global influence and potential for mutual growth. The conversation took place during the seventh meeting of the China-Brazil High-level Coordination and Cooperation Committee (COSBAN) held on June 6 in Beijing, which Alckmin co-chaired.
Alckmin highlighted that Brazil has consistently collaborated with China on multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, the G20, and BRICS, with the shared goal of safeguarding multilateralism. “Our relations with China transcend the bilateral scope,” he remarked. “They have strategic significance and a global impact.”
The Vice President expressed Brazil’s commitment to further aligning development strategies with China through enhanced cooperation and dialogue mechanisms. Marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 20th anniversary of the COSBAN mechanism, Alckmin sees this as a pivotal moment to strengthen communication and coordination on areas of common interest.
“We attach great importance to developing our relations with China,” Alckmin stated. “By deepening and expanding our exchanges and cooperation, we aim to provide better employment, higher income, and economic growth to the people of Brazil.”
He also praised China’s remarkable achievements in eradicating extreme poverty, lauding it as a model for other countries to emulate. “It is our duty to help those in need,” he said, acknowledging the importance of sharing success stories in poverty alleviation.
Alckmin’s visit and statements reflect a growing closeness between Brazil and China, as both nations seek to enhance their strategic partnership. The Vice President’s focus on economic growth and social development aligns with Brazil’s goals of improving the livelihoods of its citizens while contributing to global cooperation.
The strengthened ties between the two countries are expected to foster increased collaboration in various sectors, further solidifying their roles in shaping global affairs.
