In the aftermath of over a decade of civil war and turmoil, Libya is looking to rebuild and revitalize its society. Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, attending the 10th Ministerial Conference of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum in Beijing on May 30, expressed optimism about China’s role in Libya’s future.
“We are starting to rebuild and revitalize Libya,” said Dbeibah in an exclusive interview with CMG’s Zou Yun. “Our visit to China is not about seeking aid; it’s about discussing our future.”
Dbeibah highlighted Libya’s Return to Life initiative, emphasizing the need for international cooperation. He believes that China’s involvement is crucial not only for Libya but for all Arab states. “China’s experience and support can significantly contribute to our development efforts,” he remarked.
Endorsing President Xi Jinping’s global initiatives and China’s Five Cooperation Frameworks aimed at promoting development in the Middle East and North Africa, Dbeibah stressed the importance of collaborative efforts. “We fully support President Xi’s vision for shared growth and prosperity,” he said.
Addressing the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, Dbeibah made a heartfelt appeal: “Stop the killing! Stop the war! Stop the destruction!” He expressed hope for a peaceful resolution and looked forward to seeing more of what he called “Chinese wisdom” at play in the region.
Dbeibah’s visit to China signifies a commitment to forge stronger ties and seek partnerships that will aid Libya’s path to stability and growth. As the country embarks on this new chapter, collaboration with nations like China could be pivotal in restoring its socioeconomic fabric.
