In 2024, the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF) will celebrate two decades since its establishment, marking a significant milestone in the evolving partnership between China and the Arab world. On May 30, the 10th ministerial conference of the CASCF convened in Beijing, highlighting the Forum’s role as a pivotal platform for dialogue and collaboration.
Over the past 20 years, the CASCF has facilitated incremental developments in cooperation mechanisms, leading to notable achievements across various domains. The Forum has been instrumental in enhancing political trust, expanding economic and trade relations, promoting cultural exchanges, and advancing scientific and technological progress between China and Arab states.
The recent ministerial meeting in Beijing underscored a shared commitment to deepening friendship and cooperation. The release of three joint statements—the Beijing Declaration, the CASCF execution plan for 2024-2026, and a joint statement on the Palestinian issue—reflects the mutual intent to strengthen ties and collaborate on issues of common concern.
China has established comprehensive strategic partnerships with 14 Arab countries and the Arab League, underscoring the depth of these relationships. Economic complementarities have naturally positioned China and Arab countries as key partners within the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), fostering breakthroughs in cooperation, especially in the Middle East.
Bilateral trade has witnessed remarkable growth, escalating from $36.7 billion in 2004 to $431.4 billion in 2022. The Arab states have become China’s main overseas crude oil suppliers, while China has been the largest trading partner for Arab countries for years. Collaboration has expanded beyond traditional sectors to include high-tech fields such as medical and healthcare services, satellite communications, and other emerging industries.
Together, China and Arab states have actively engaged in international matters, contributing significantly to upholding international fairness and justice. The enduring friendship and profound cooperation between the two sides continue to serve as valuable assets, fostering sincere collaboration and mutual development.
