Azerbaijan’s Assistant to the President, Hikmat Hajiyev, recently visited China to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations. In an exclusive interview with Wang Guan on “The Hub,” Hajiyev emphasized the longstanding friendship between Azerbaijan and China, highlighting the importance of equitable partnerships in fostering global development.
With President Ilham Aliyev commencing his new term earlier this year, Azerbaijan is poised to advance its international relations and pursue strategies that bolster its interests on the world stage. Hajiyev outlined Azerbaijan’s commitment to predictable diplomacy and principle-driven engagement, aiming to enhance regional cooperation through initiatives like the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).
“As we develop the TITR, we are creating new opportunities for connectivity and trade between Asia and Europe,” Hajiyev stated. “China’s support and collaboration in this project are invaluable.”
As the host of the upcoming COP29 conference, Azerbaijan is positioning itself as a vital bridge between the Global North and South. Hajiyev highlighted the significant role that China plays in Azerbaijan’s green transformation, especially through technological innovation and investment in sustainable infrastructure.
“China’s experience in renewable energy and green technologies offers us a pathway to achieve our environmental goals,” he said.
Moreover, Hajiyev hinted at the possibility of introducing visa-free travel for Chinese citizens visiting Azerbaijan. “We believe that enhancing people-to-people contact is essential. Facilitating travel will not only boost tourism but also deepen mutual understanding between our nations,” he explained.
The deepening ties between Azerbaijan and China reflect a shared vision for cooperation, economic development, and cultural exchange. As both countries continue to collaborate on key initiatives, their partnership is set to contribute significantly to regional stability and prosperity.
