Serbian President Vučić Highlights Deepening Ties with China in Exclusive Interview

In an exclusive interview with CMG’s Wang Guan in Belgrade, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić highlighted the deepening ties between Serbia and China, emphasizing a newly signed Free Trade Agreement that promises to bolster bilateral economic relations and potentially impact the wider region.

Reflecting on the events of 25 years ago when Serbia faced a wave of bombings, President Vučić underscored the importance of sovereignty and the lessons learned in preserving it. Over the decades, he noted, Serbia has formed an “ironclad and enduring bond” with China, a relationship that has grown stronger through mutual support and cooperation.

“China has been supportive and reliable in difficult times,” President Vučić stated, praising the partnership that has seen significant Chinese investment in Serbia. He firmly rejected the “debt trap” narrative promoted by some Western countries, asserting that such claims do not reflect the reality of Serbia’s collaborative projects with Chinese businesses.

“It’s not about the money, it’s about governance,” he explained, highlighting China’s ability to offer innovative solutions that benefit both nations. The President expressed optimism that the Free Trade Agreement would open new avenues for economic growth and regional cooperation.

President Vučić also extended a warm invitation to the Chinese people to visit Serbia and experience “real European hospitality.” He emphasized the importance of people-to-people exchanges in strengthening the cultural and social bonds between the two countries. “We look forward to more interactions and shared experiences with our Chinese friends in the future,” he said.

The interview shed light on the strategic partnership between Serbia and China, underscoring shared values and mutual aspirations. As both nations navigate the complexities of global economic and political landscapes, their reinforced alliance signifies a commitment to collaborative progress and regional stability.
