Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently concluded a six-day visit to Egypt, Tunisia, Togo, and Cote d’Ivoire, marking a significant step in strengthening China’s ties with African nations. The tour aimed to enhance win-win cooperation, accelerate joint development projects, and address regional challenges impacting peace and stability.
In Egypt, Wang Yi and President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi agreed on a new 10-year vision to expand their comprehensive strategic partnership. This collaboration focuses on sectors such as new energy, aerospace, technology, and the digital economy. Key infrastructure projects under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), including the Suez Canal Development Project, are set to benefit from increased cooperation. With over 1,200 Chinese enterprises operating in Egypt, China’s commitment to bolstering investment and talent training aligns with Egypt’s goal to strengthen its economic development.
The visit also underscored a unified stance on regional conflicts. China, Egypt, and Tunisia emphasized the importance of Palestinian statehood and called for a lasting ceasefire to address the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. Their joint support highlights the need for a comprehensive peace conference and a binding two-state solution to ensure enduring peace and prevent conflict spillovers in areas like the Red Sea.
In Tunisia, the inauguration of the China-built International Diplomatic Academy commemorated 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The academy is poised to enhance mutual understanding and foster people-to-people exchanges, reflecting the strategic direction set by their leaders to promote friendly cooperation.
Wang Yi’s meetings with leaders in Togo and Cote d’Ivoire further reinforced commitments to elevate China-Africa cooperation. Discussions focused on implementing outcomes from previous cooperation forums and exploring new avenues for partnership in various development sectors.
The tour highlights China’s dedication to advancing collaborative efforts with African nations, contributing to regional development, and supporting global peace and stability. It sets the stage for deeper engagement and mutual growth in the years ahead.
