China and EU Emphasize Partnership at 24th Summit in Beijing

The 24th China-EU Summit took place on December 7 in Beijing, marking the first in-person meeting between Chinese and European leaders since 2019. This significant event follows the recent China-U.S. summit and represents a pivotal moment in strengthening bilateral relations.

Amid global uncertainties, some have portrayed China-EU relations as a “you lose, I win” competition. However, Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed that “partnership” is the cornerstone of their relationship. During the summit, President Xi proposed that China and the EU become “three partners”: key partners for economic and trade cooperation, preferred partners for scientific and technological cooperation, and trustworthy partners for industrial and supply chain cooperation.

This proposal injects new vitality into the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the EU. By enhancing cooperation in these critical areas, both sides aim to promote mutual benefits, address global challenges, and contribute to international stability and prosperity.

The summit underscores the commitment of both China and the EU to deepen their ties and work collaboratively, rejecting zero-sum competition. As the global economic and political landscapes evolve, their partnership is increasingly vital for fostering sustainable development and tackling shared concerns.
