Cambodian PM Hun Manet Seeks Stronger Ties with China at Belt and Road Forum

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, during his recent visit to China for the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, expressed his commitment to deepening cooperation with China. Emphasizing the continuity and consistency of China-Cambodia relations, Hun Manet highlighted the significant role of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in promoting global governance and mutual prosperity.

“Cambodia has been a steadfast supporter of the Belt and Road Initiative since its inception,” Hun Manet stated. “We believe it serves as an international cooperative platform that offers mutual benefits and contributes to our nation’s economic and social development, aligning with our ‘Pentagon Strategy.'”

The Prime Minister underscored the importance of bolstering investment in infrastructure and connectivity. He cited landmark projects such as the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway and the newly constructed Siem Reap Angkor International Airport as emblematic of the successful collaboration between Cambodia and China.

“By partnering with Chinese companies, we aim to enhance our infrastructure, which is vital for economic growth and regional integration,” he said. “These projects not only improve connectivity within Cambodia but also strengthen our ties with neighboring countries.”

Hun Manet also shared insights into his governance philosophy, drawing from his educational background and commitment to public service. He reiterated his determination to combat crime and ensure stability within the country. “Safety and security are paramount for our citizens and for attracting foreign investment,” he noted.

Reflecting on the influence of his father, former Prime Minister Hun Sen, Hun Manet spoke about the enduring legacy and guidance that shapes his leadership. “My father’s dedication to our nation has been a source of inspiration. I am committed to continuing his vision for a prosperous and peaceful Cambodia,” he expressed.
