Exclusive: Putin on Russia-China Ties and Vision for a Multipolar World

In an exclusive interview with CMG’s Wang Guan, Russian President Vladimir Putin delved into the evolving dynamics of Russia-China relations and shared his vision for a multipolar world. The discussion comes ahead of his anticipated visit to Beijing to attend the 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

Strengthening Russia-China Relations

President Putin highlighted the significant growth and nurturing of Russia-China ties over the past two decades. “Our relationship with China has reached an unprecedented level,” he stated. He emphasized that cooperation is not limited to the energy sector but spans various areas of mutual interest, including technology, infrastructure, and cultural exchanges.

Alignment of Visions: Eurasian Economic Union and Belt and Road Initiative

The Russian leader discussed how the Eurasian Economic Union’s vision aligns seamlessly with China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). “Both initiatives aim to enhance regional connectivity and economic integration,” Putin noted. He expressed optimism that this alignment would bring about shared prosperity and stability across the Eurasian continent.

A Multipolar World Order

Addressing the current global tensions and divisions, Putin questioned the sustainability of the existing “rule-based order” established by the West. He advocated for a multipolar world where no nations are considered “first-class” or “second-class.” “We must ensure that all countries have an equal voice in international affairs,” he asserted.

He praised President Xi Jinping’s concept of “building a global community of shared future,” describing it as both realistic and coherent. “It’s a vision that resonates with our own goals for international relations based on mutual respect and non-interference,” Putin remarked.

Perspectives on Global Conflicts

When discussing the conflict in Ukraine, President Putin expressed his views candidly. He drew parallels with the situation in Iran, suggesting that “the West keeps adding fuel to the fire.” He emphasized the need for diplomatic solutions and criticized external interference that exacerbates tensions.

Looking Ahead to the Belt and Road Forum

As he prepares for his visit to China, Putin anticipates fruitful discussions at the Belt and Road Forum. “I look forward to collaborating with our Chinese partners and other international leaders to advance initiatives that benefit our peoples,” he said.

President Putin’s insights shed light on the evolving geopolitical landscape and underscore the importance of cooperation and mutual understanding in addressing global challenges.
