In a recent event titled BRI at 10: Bridging over Uncertain Times held in Frankfurt, Danilo Türk, the former president of Slovenia, highlighted the success of a significant bridge collaboration in Croatia as a noteworthy example of international cooperation.
Türk discussed the Pelješac Bridge, which connects the Croatian mainland with the Pelješac Peninsula. Completed in 2022, the bridge has greatly improved connectivity within the region, fostering economic growth and enhancing the lives of local residents.
“The Pelješac Bridge stands as a symbol of what collaborative efforts can achieve,” Türk stated. “It not only unites communities but also exemplifies how infrastructure projects can bridge gaps between nations, promoting understanding and prosperity.”
The bridge project involved cooperation between Croatia and international partners, reflecting the spirit of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in promoting global connectivity. Türk emphasized that such projects are essential in today’s uncertain times, serving as tangible reminders of the benefits of working together.
He concluded by asserting that people need to experience and feel cooperation firsthand. “Bridges like this do more than span physical distances—they connect people, economies, and cultures,” he said. “They are a testament to what we can achieve when we work collectively towards common goals.”
