Nepal’s PM Prachanda Seeks Enhanced Ties with China for Development Boost

Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, widely known as Prachanda, has called for stronger ties with China to transform Nepal from a landlocked to a “land-linked” country. During his recent visit to China, where he attended the opening ceremony of the Hangzhou Asian Games, Prachanda held talks with President Xi Jinping to discuss mutually beneficial initiatives.

Emphasizing Nepal’s strategic position bordering China’s Xizang Autonomous Region to the north, Prachanda expressed eagerness to tap into China’s rapid development. He praised the achievements of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and commended President Xi’s visionary leadership, highlighting China’s advancements in agriculture and infrastructure as models for Nepal’s own economic growth.

“Nepal is keen to learn from China’s experience,” Prachanda stated in an exclusive interview with Li Tongtong. “We believe that collaboration on the Belt and Road Initiative and the Trans-Himalayan Multi-dimensional Connectivity Network can significantly bolster our economy and improve the lives of our people.”

The Prime Minister revealed plans to open more border crossings with China to facilitate trade and cultural exchanges. “Enhanced connectivity will not only boost economic activities but also strengthen people-to-people relationships between our two nations,” he added.

Addressing concerns raised by some Western media outlets, Prachanda firmly rejected the notion of a “debt trap” associated with Chinese investments. He labeled such narratives as unfounded and biased, emphasizing that Nepal’s partnership with China is based on mutual respect and shared prosperity.

“Our collaboration with China is transparent and aimed at long-term development,” he asserted. “We are fully aware of our national interests and are committed to making decisions that benefit the Nepali people.”

Prachanda’s visit marks a significant step in Nepal’s efforts to enhance regional cooperation and economic integration. With ambitious projects on the horizon, Nepal aims to leverage its unique geographic position to become a vital link between China and South Asia.
