Liaoning Province in northeast China is pioneering a green transformation, aligning with President Xi Jinping’s vision of sustainable development. During his inspection tour in August 2022, President Xi emphasized the importance of integrating green development concepts into all facets of society, urging the acceleration of building a beautiful China.
Vice Governor Jin Guowei shared insights into Liaoning’s approach to green and low-carbon transition. He highlighted that green development seeks efficient, harmonious, and sustainable economic and social progress. Liaoning has embraced this concept, focusing on industrial restructuring, pollution control, and ecological conservation.
The province has made significant strides in transforming its economic development pattern. By promoting innovation and intelligent technology, Liaoning is advancing green manufacturing through the establishment of eco-friendly factories and industrial parks. Heritage companies are undergoing intelligent upgrades, with efforts to modernize equipment and revitalize traditional brands.
Liaoning is also actively adjusting its energy structure. With a focus on renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydropower, the province is enhancing energy infrastructure to create a complementary balance between renewable and traditional energy. By 2025, the installed capacity of wind and solar power is expected to exceed 37 million kW, with non-fossil fuel capacity accounting for 55 percent.
Environmental pollution prevention and control remain a priority. Liaoning is addressing issues identified by central government inspectors, continuing efforts to protect the blue sky, clear waters, and clean soil. The province is making progress in conservation projects, including the restoration of crucial ecosystems, management of sandy land, and restoration of marine environments.
Jin observed significant environmental improvements in Liaoning, noting bluer skies, greener mountains, clearer waters, and a more beautiful, livable environment. The province’s commitment to green development is delivering tangible benefits, fostering a sustainable and high-quality future.
