Chinese Premier Li Qiang Advocates Global Unity at G20 Summit

At the 18th G20 Summit in New Delhi, Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized the importance of global solidarity and cooperation to foster a just and equitable world order. Addressing the leaders of the world’s major economies, Premier Li called for strengthened coordination on macroeconomic policies to achieve sustainable and meaningful global economic growth.

“We are willing to join hands with all parties to make greater efforts and contributions for our common earth, common home, and for the common future of humanity,” Premier Li stated, highlighting China’s commitment to multilateralism and constructive engagement within the G20 framework.

His remarks come amid a polarized international environment marked by ongoing conflicts and geopolitical tensions. Premier Li’s advocacy for consensus-building and unity underscores the need for countries to set aside differences and work collaboratively to address pressing global challenges.

A significant highlight of the summit was the G20’s inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member, a move endorsed by Premier Li. This expansion reflects a shared recognition of the importance of inclusive dialogue and representation in addressing global issues.

Global economic concerns featured prominently in Premier Li’s address. With the world economy facing challenges such as supply chain disruptions, rising inflation, and food and energy insecurities, he stressed the urgency of cooperative action. According to a World Bank report from March 2023, global GDP growth is projected to shrink by 2.2 percent between 2023 and 2030, signaling potential economic stagnation if collaborative measures are not taken.

Premier Li’s speech urged G20 member states to prioritize global governance and collective decision-making over unilateral actions. He emphasized the forum’s responsibility to support impoverished countries grappling with economic hardships, advocating for solutions that serve the greater good of humanity.

The Chinese premier’s call for unity and cooperation resonated with many at the summit. G20 ‘Sherpa’ Amitabh Kant praised China’s role in the organization, describing it as a genuine multilateral player contributing positively to global discussions.

As the international community continues to navigate complex economic and political landscapes, Premier Li’s message serves as a reminder of the critical importance of solidarity and mutual support in achieving shared prosperity and stability.
