China Unveils Discovery of 124 New Mineral Deposits in 2023

China has unveiled the discovery of 124 new mineral deposits in 2023, according to a report released by the Ministry of Natural Resources at the 26th China Mining Conference and Exhibition in Tianjin.

The report, titled “China Mineral Resources 2024“, highlights significant progress in geological and mineral surveys, resource exploration and development, and ecological restoration of mines since 2023.

Among the newly discovered deposits, limestone and graphite are notably abundant, with 16 limestone deposits designated for construction and 10 graphite deposits identified. By the end of 2023, China has discovered a total of 173 kinds of minerals.

In oil and gas exploration, major breakthroughs have been achieved in new layers and zones within large basins such as the Tarim, Junggar, and Bohai Bay. These developments signal a promising future for China’s energy sector.

Non-oil-gas mineral exploration also saw significant advancements, particularly in coal, copper, gold, lithium, and phosphorite. These discoveries are expected to bolster China’s mineral resource base and support economic growth.

The four-day conference, which brings together industry experts and stakeholders to discuss the latest trends and developments in mining, will conclude on Friday.
