A 100-day-old panda cub, born to Meng Meng—the eldest of the world’s only giant panda triplets—is thriving at Chimelong Safari Park in Guangzhou City, south China’s Guangdong Province. The zoo marked this significant milestone with a public celebration on Thursday.
The female cub has shown remarkable growth, increasing from a mere 178 grams at birth to over 5 kilograms. She now boasts 13 teeth, according to the conservation team’s recent physical examination.
“The cub is now fed three to four times a day, each session lasting about five to ten minutes. She spends most of her time sleeping when she’s not eating. We’re gradually increasing her exposure to sunlight to promote healthy bone and muscle development,” said Chen Siming, a panda keeper at the park. “Every day around 8 a.m., we take her outdoors for half an hour of sunbathing.”
After her checkup, the cub returned to the exhibition area and napped on a special “100-family quilt”—a patchwork blanket made from “blessing cloth” contributed by visitors, symbolizing the collective well-wishes of countless families in Cantonese culture.
Chimelong Safari Park announced that visitors will have the opportunity to meet the panda cub during the upcoming National Day holiday. Born on June 18, she is not only an adorable new addition to the zoo but also the first newborn giant panda at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Pandas this year.
