Deadly floods and landslides triggered by Typhoon Yagi have impacted nearly six million children across Southeast Asia, according to the United Nations.
As the death toll continues to rise, countries including Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar are grappling with the aftermath of the powerful storm that swept through the region almost two weeks ago.
Typhoon Yagi unleashed powerful winds and torrential rainfall, leading to widespread destruction. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reported that access to clean water, education, healthcare, food, and shelter has been severely compromised for millions of children.
“The most vulnerable children and families are facing the most devastating consequences of the destruction left behind by Typhoon Yagi,” said June Kunugi, UNICEF Regional Director for East Asia and the Pacific.
In Vietnam alone, approximately three million people are at risk of disease due to a lack of safe drinking water and sanitation facilities, UNICEF warned.
The humanitarian crisis underscores the urgent need for international support and relief efforts to aid affected communities and rebuild essential services.
