The toll from wildfires in Portugal has risen to seven, according to civil protection authorities. On Tuesday, three Portuguese firefighters lost their lives when their vehicle was trapped in flames near Nelas in the northern Viseu region.

“We regret the death of three firefighters,” said Andre Fernandes, the national commander of civil protection, during a press briefing. The victims, two women and a man, were courageously fighting the blaze when the tragic incident occurred.
