Israel Experiences Hottest Summer on Record

This summer, Israel has faced an extraordinary heatwave, marking the hottest season since official records began in 1950. The Israel Meteorological Service (IMS) announced on Monday that the average national daily temperature soared to 29 degrees Celsius between June and August, surpassing the previous record set twelve years ago by about one degree.

The peak of this sweltering heat was recorded in the Sea of Galilee region in northeastern Israel, where temperatures skyrocketed to an astonishing 46.7 degrees Celsius. Such extreme conditions have impacted daily life, agriculture, and the environment, prompting concerns across various sectors.

According to the IMS, the main reason for the abnormal heat is unprecedented sea temperatures, which climbed to a staggering 32 degrees Celsius on some days. These unusually warm sea temperatures have intensified the heat experienced on land, creating a cycle of rising temperatures that has set new records.

As residents seek relief from the oppressive heat, experts are emphasizing the need to understand the underlying causes and to prepare for potential future extremes. The record-breaking summer serves as a stark reminder of the challenges posed by changing climatic patterns.
