Xi Jinping Calls on Volunteers to Promote Water Conservation Ahead of National Ecology Day

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on environmental volunteers to promote water conservation and contribute to the harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature. In a reply letter to volunteers working at the Danjiangkou Reservoir in Shiyan City, Hubei Province, President Xi emphasized the importance of public participation in protecting water resources.

The letter was sent ahead of China’s second National Ecology Day on Thursday. President Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, praised the volunteers for their dedication, noting that their efforts have made “the water in the reservoir area clearer, the mountains greener, and the environment more beautiful.”

Danjiangkou Reservoir serves as the water source for the middle route of China’s South-to-North Water Diversion Project, a crucial initiative that began supplying water in 2014 following President Xi’s important instructions. Over the past decade, enhanced measures have been implemented to protect the reservoir’s water quality, involving active participation from officials, residents, and environmental volunteers.

In their letter to President Xi, the volunteers shared their experiences and reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the reservoir’s water quality. President Xi encouraged them to inspire more people to consciously conserve water resources and to work together in building a beautiful China. He highlighted that the water diversion project holds strategic significance for the country’s long-term development and the well-being of its people.

President Xi also extended his sincere greetings to environmental protection workers and volunteers nationwide, acknowledging their vital role in promoting ecological conservation.
