Since June, devastating rains and floods have swept across several parts of Sudan, claiming the lives of 68 people, according to Sudan’s Interior Minister Khalil Pasha Sairin. In a statement released on Monday, the minister detailed the tragic toll the natural disasters have taken on the nation.
“The number of deaths due to the floods and rains reached 68 for various reasons, including the collapse of houses and drowning, while 130 people were injured,” said Minister Sairin. The floods have not only resulted in fatalities but have also left many injured and caused significant damage to infrastructure and homes.
The heavy rains have led to widespread flooding, affecting communities across the country. Many residents have been displaced, and the risk of waterborne diseases is escalating as the flooding continues. Emergency services and humanitarian organizations are working tirelessly to provide relief and support to those affected.
The government has urged citizens in vulnerable areas to take precautionary measures and has called for international assistance to address the mounting crisis. The situation underscores the challenges faced by Sudan in dealing with extreme weather events, which are becoming increasingly frequent and severe.
