China has unveiled a comprehensive plan to standardize carbon emission calculations across key sectors, reinforcing its commitment to meeting carbon reduction targets.
By the end of 2024, the plan aims to publish 70 national standards on carbon accounting, footprint, reduction, capture, utilization, and storage. These standards will encompass all key sectors and companies, according to the plan issued by the National Development and Reform Commission, the State Administration for Market Regulation, and the Ministry of Emergency Management.
In 2025, a standardized calculation and evaluation system will be established for businesses, projects, and products. This system is designed to ensure that key sectors and products meet world-leading benchmarks for energy consumption control, aligning with China’s environmental objectives.
