China’s August Forecast: Heavy Rains in North, Heat Waves to Persist in South

The China Meteorological Administration (CMA) has issued its forecast for August, warning of significant rainfall in the northern regions and ongoing heat waves in the south. During a press briefing in Beijing on Thursday, Jia Xiaolong, deputy director of the National Climate Center, outlined the weather patterns expected in the coming days.

Jia noted that the first ten days of August are likely to bring frequent precipitation to northern China, including the northeast, North China Plain, and the eastern parts of the northwest region. “We anticipate moderate to heavy rains in these areas,” he said, emphasizing the need for preparedness against potential flooding and related disruptions.

In the southwest, the Sichuan Basin and Yunnan Province are also expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall over the next ten days. Some locales may face torrential downpours or severe rainstorms, heightening concerns over landslides and other natural hazards.

Meanwhile, high temperatures are forecasted to continue across many parts of the country, particularly in the southern regions and the lower reaches of the Yellow River. The persistent heat waves pose challenges for residents and authorities alike, impacting daily life and agricultural activities.

The CMA urges local governments and citizens to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions. The combination of heavy rains in the north and heat waves in the south underscores the diverse climatic conditions affecting China during the summer months.
